Russian President Vladimir Putin named as "Person of the Year" for 2007 on December 19. Putin was conferred the title for bringing his country "roaring back to the table of world power." Putin, was a former KGB official who was picked from obscurity in 1999 by then-president Boris Yeltsin. Time Magazine Managing editor Richard Stengel announced Putin's selection on a US breakfast television show.
