Afghanistan: Explosion outside mosque in Herat, 7 killed

The incident occurred hours after a rocket landed at the residence of the Indian envoy.

A huge explosion went off outside a mosque in Afghanistan’s Herat province on Tuesday, killing at least seven people, according to reports in the Afghan media.

The blast in the parking lot of Jamay Mosque also left 16 people injured, the reports said. Prayers were underway at the mosque at the time of the attack.

Images on social media showed the blast resulted in a fire outside the mosque, sending black smoke billowing into the sky.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

The incident occurred hours after a rocket landed in the tennis court within the official residential compound of the Indian ambassador in Kabul.
