Rob Reiner autopsy report: Coroner reveals late director, wife Michele's cause of death
LA County Coroner ruled the deaths a homicide, citing multiple sharp force injuries. LAPD found the couple dead at home; the bodies are cleared for release.
After the shock death of director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele at their home in Brentwood, California on Monday, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has revealed the couple's cause of death.

On Wednesday, the LA County coroner said that Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, died from "multiple sharp force injuries." The LAPD had initially said that they were investigating a homicide after the couple were found with stab wounds inside their home.
Their son, Nick Reiner, was inside the home. 21-year-old Nick Reiner is the suspect in the attack and faces two counts of first-degree murder. On Wednesday, Nick Reiner made his first court appearance in LA County and has been placed in police custody without bail till his arraignment on January 7, 2026.

The autopsy results uploaded on the website of the LA County Coroner show that examiner Jennifer Hertzog has ruled both deaths as homicide. The place of death has been determined at their residence. LAPD also confirmed that they found the couple dead inside their home.
The cause of death has been determined as "multiple sharp force injuries." Rob and Michele Reiner's bodies is now ready for release, the status on the website showed.

Nick Reiner's First Court Appearance
On Wednesday, Nick Reiner made his first court appearance in LA County. Cameras on him were prohibited in the courtroom, but CNN reported that the 32-year-old was seated "calmly" and consented to waive a speedy arraignment, given the nature of the case. He was wearing an anti-suicide smock at the courthouse.

He is being represented by Alan Jackson, the high-profile lawyer who represented the likes of Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey. Speaking to reporters outside the court today, he said the case has "very complex and serious issues associated with” it and asked the media not to “rush to judgment.”
Meanwhile, Rob and Michele Reiner's other children, Jake and Romy Reiner, issued a statement requesting privacy. “We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave,” the statement read.
