While many criticized him for seeking money a day after becoming mayor-elect, donations have reportedly poured in for Mamdani's transition team.

How much did Mamdani's transition team raise in donations?

Zohran Mamdani's transition team reportedly raised $517,947.30 in the first 30 hours. This came from 7,074 donations, the campaign told reporter Nick Garber who works with Crain's New York Business. Garber added that it came to an average of $73 per donor.

Garber's post was shared by Mamdani on X, who reacted with the eyes emoji.

Many praised Mamdani's movement, calling it ‘grassroots’. “That’s what real grassroots power looks like, not billionaires, just people investing in someone who actually fights for them,” a person wrote in reaction to the news. Another said, “Just remarkable…especially the sheer number of every small-dollar donations, which suggests strong grassroots momentum rather than reliance on big donors,” adding, “Could your team be indicated how those funds will be allocated between campaign infrastructure and community outreach?”

Notably, on November 6, Mamdani announced on X that his team were accepting applications for those looking to help ‘build this administration and deliver on our affordability agenda.’

Meanwhile, ‘day 2’ started off with ‘congratulating El San Juan Local 610 workers on winning their fair contract’. The mayor-elect also shared on X that he'd met with New York lawmakers to discuss the challenges facing the Latino community. Elsewhere, the mayor-elect slammed Speaker Mike Johnson's remarks on food prices increasing.

“In 2024, Republicans promised to lower the cost of groceries. In 2025, they’re shrugging it off, saying 'food prices always go up.' For too long, government’s failure to deliver has been treated as inevitable. My administration will prove that government can work for you,” Mamdani wrote on X.

Mamdani, who beat former governor Andrew Cuomo, and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa to win the mayoral election will be sworn in on January 1, 2026.
