Video of a woman demanding to see a ‘white doctor’ at a walk-in clinic in Ontario has outraged Canadians and become viral on social media for all the wrong reasons.
The video shows the woman demanding a “white doctor” who speaks “perfect English”. “Can I see a doctor please that’s white, that doesn’t have brown teeth, that speaks English?” the aggressive woman is heard asking the receptionist repeatedly.
According to reports by CTV Toronto, the video was recorded by Hitesh Bhardwaj, a patient at the waiting room of the Rapid Access to Medical Specialists Clinic.
When an employee tries to explain that a Caucasian paediatrician wouldn’t be available till 4pm she responds by expressing incredulity at the fact that there is not a single “white doctor” in the entire building.
“Oh my God, what type of horrible country do I live in? My kid is sick. I want to see somebody else. Being white in this country, I should just shoot myself,” she is later heard as saying.
When other patients at the hospital begin protesting against the woman’s obnoxious remarks calling her “rude and racist”, she plays the victim card. “You’re brown, you’re brown. You’re all attacking me because I’m white,” she responds.
The woman was eventually escorted out of the building by the security and the child was treated by one of the doctors in the clinic.
The episode has sparked an outrage in Canada which prides itself for its accommodation of multiculturalism and religious diversity.
