Over 20: Ten runs off the over takes England to a somewhat respectable 142/7. David Willey and Moeen Ali were chief architects of the fightback. Will it be enough against the Mohammad Shahzad-led batting order?

(Follow Afghanistan’s chase)

Over 19: Big, big over for England. Three sixes and a four from it. 132/7

Over 18: 9 off the over. 107/7

Over 17: 4 off the over. 98/7

Over 16: 7 off the over. 94/7

Over 15: 6 off the over and Jordan’s wicket. 87/7

14.3 Rashid Khan to Jordan, OUT

Too easy. Rashid can’t believe it! Tried to turn it to leg but gets a limp leading edge back to the bowler

Over 14: 7 off the over. 81/6

Over 13: 9 off the over. 74/6

Over 12: 1 off the over. 65/6

Over 11: 5 off the over. 64/6

Over 10: Yet another wicket and 6 off the over. 59/6

9.2 Rashid Khan to Stokes, OUT

He’s...he’s...bowled him! The googly, short of a length and Stokes went to pull it but is much too quick on it, inside-edging it onto his stumps - and in the process, falling over onto his derriere, which rather sums up England’s comical effort this afternoon

Over 9: The slide continues for England. 3 off the over and Buttler’s wicket. 53/5

8.1 Rashid Khan to Buttler, OUT

What a catch, what a blinder to dismiss Buttler! Driven on the up and short extra cover dives forward and to his left as though scooping fish from the river, plucking a beauty!

Over 8: 2 off the over. 50/4

Over 7: 6 off the over. 48/4

Over 6: Three wickets as it all goes horribly wrong for England. Afghanistan well on top here. 42/4

5.6 Mohammad Nabi to Stokes, OUT

turned off his toes - Root runs for a single but is sent back, and he’s going to be short of his ground here - he is! The stumps are demolished; were they broken too soon? It’s complete carnage out there and we’ll have to go to a replay. Did he break the stumps too early? No - he’s out. Root is out. Root’s gone!

5.4 Mohammad Nabi to Morgan, OUT

Gone! Morgan’s left a straight one - shouldering arms, waiting for the turn and oh dear, oh dear, oh dear!

5.3 Mohammad Nabi to Vince, OUT

Driven straight back to Nabi! Tame and lame from Vince who, dancing down the pitch to a slower ball, dabs a dolly back to the bowler

Over 5: Good over for England, three boundaries off it. 41/1

Over 4: 11 off Shapoor, including a six from Root. 27/1

Over 3: 5 off Hamza and the wicket of Jason Roy. 16/1

2.6 Amir Hamza to Roy, OUT

Bowled him! Terrific ball, 61mph fired in on leg stump and Roy, dancing down the pitch, misses it completely

Over 2: 9 runs off Shapoor’s first over. 11/0

Over 1: 2 off the first over from Hamza. England 2/0
