A 72 year old English man allegedly assaulted his wife and threatened to kill her because she had changed the channels in the final overs of the Indian T20 League cricket match that he was watching, British daily Daily Mail reported.
Bryan Wright of Darlington admitted that he did "act completely inappropriately" after he came back to the room and saw that his wife had changed the channel from the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils that he had been watching all afternoon on April 16.
According to his wife Lilian's lawyer, he had grabbed her by the collar of her night gown and hit her with the remote while repeatedly shouting "I will kill you".
A terrified Lilian ran over to the neighbour's house from where she called the police. While he maintains that did not hit her with the remote or threaten to kill her, Wright did plead guilty to the assault.
Wright has been given a three years conditional discharge and been charged £100 as court costs. For the time being, the couple are separated, with no plans for reconciliation.
