Afghan President Hamid Karzai escaped unhurt from an assassination attempt during a celebration near the presidential palace in Kabul on Sunday, a palace source told Reuters.

"Yes, he is safe and fine," said the source, who declined to be named. A Taliban spokesman said three of six attackers were killed during the attack.
