Afghan police chief killed in blast

The powerful head of police for north Afghanistan, General Dawood Dawood, was killed by a blast at the compound of the governor of Takhar province, the head of the provincial hospital and a spokesman for the provincial governor said.

The powerful head of police for north Afghanistan, General Dawood Dawood, was killed by a blast at the compound of the governor of Takhar province, the head of the provincial hospital and a spokesman for the provincial governor said.

The police chief of Takhar province was also killed in the blast, along with three foreign soldiers, said Faiz Mohammad Tawhidi, spokesman for the provincial governor.

The governor was wounded but survived the blast, Tawhidi added.
