"Airlines have reduced their flights by 20 percent," an official at France's civil aviation authority (DGAC) said, adding that flights would not be affected at the smaller Paris airport of Orly.

"The freezing rain affecting the Paris region early Wednesday was expected to turn to snow by midday," weather forecasters said.

An early cold snap has caused severe transport disruption across Europe over the past week.
