The accident occurred around 4.50 pm on Tuesday when 41 miners were working in the shaft of Chentong Coal Industry Co. Ltd. in Yuxian county, Xinhua reported citing Liu Xianyun of the work safety committee of Yangquan city.

Twenty-seven miners escaped unhurt and three trapped workers were rescued, Liu said at a press conference. The rescue work is continuing.
