Early compensation to Japan nuclear plant to total Y50 bn: operator

Tokyo Electric Power Co, the operator of Japan's crippled nuclear power plant, said on Friday provisional compensation would cover 50,000 households in the evacuation and 'stay inside' zones near the plant, totalling around 50 billion yen ($599 million).

But TEPCO President Masataka Shimizu told a news conference that he could not say how much total compensation the company would end up paying.
