India will institute a scholarship to encourage Bhutanese students to study in its leading universities and institutions, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced in Thimpu on Saturday.

Visiting Bhutan in the centenary year of the Wangchuck dynasty, Singh told the newly-elected National Assembly of the Himalayan state that India will institute a Nehru-Wangchuck Scholarship.
The scholarship will be instituted "to encourage students from Bhutan to study in leading Indian universities and institutions," Singh said.
The Indian Prime Minister is the first world leader to visit Bhutan after it entered the club of democratic nations in March.
