Peshawaria, also a social activist and former athlete, is the younger sister of ex-IPS official Kiran Bedi.
In her capacity as the Legal Professional Adviser to the Indian embassy, Peshawaria would not only give legal advice to the mission in Washington, but also to all Indian consulates in the US situated in New York, Chicago, Houston and San Francisco.
Two more Indian consulates - Atlanta and Seattle - are in the pipeline.
Peshawaria, an internationally-known attorney, recently wrote a book, 'The Immigrant's Dream', to help prevent fraudulent marriages in the NRI community.
She is also founder of Seva Legal Aid in the US, with its head based in California.
