Indonesia issues Tsunami alert after major aftershock

Indonesia is hit by a 6.7 aftershock off Sumatra island, tiggering a local Tsunami alert, a day after a huge quake in the same region.

Indonesia on Thursday was hit by a 6.7 aftershock off Sumatra island, tiggering a local Tsunami alert, a day after a huge quake in the same region, the meterology office said.

The aftershock hit at 0656 IST, about 130 kilometres southwest of the coastal city of Painan in West Sumatra, at a depth of 46 kilometres.

"There is a tsunami potential," a telephone text message from the office said.
