Lankan MP asked to leave House for dress code violation

A woman MP of a prominent Tamil political party was asked to leave the Sri Lankan Parliament for violating the parliamentary dress code by coming to the House dressed in a salwar kameez.

A woman MP of a prominent Tamil political party was asked to leave the Sri Lankan Parliament for violating the parliamentary dress code by coming to the House dressed in a salwar kameez.

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP Thangeswary Kathiraman was ordered to leave the Parliament on Thursday after she was seen dressed in a salwar kameez.

Deputy Serjeant-at-Arms Naren Fernando ordered the 57-year-old member from Eastern Batticaloa to immediately leave the House after she was seen clad in a salwar kameez in violation of Parliament dress code.

According to Sri Lankan Parliamentary dress code, women MPs have to wear saree while inside the Chamber of the House.
