All five members of a family have been killed when their vehicle hit land mines planted by Taliban insurgents.

All five members of a family have been killed when their vehicle hit land mines planted by Taliban insurgents in central Afghan province of Uruzgan, a police official said on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday at 2 pm (GMT 09:30) when a couple with their three children were riding a motorbike on a highway in Uruzgan province, provincial police chief Juma Himat said.

"The land mines were supposed to be planted by Taliban insurgents for attacking Afghan army and NATO forces," he said.
