Pakistan's presidential spokesman Rashid Qureshi on Sunday denied a report in a British daily that Pervez Musharraf was considering stepping down as president.
The Sunday Telegraph said Musharraf believed he had run out of options after leaders of the parties, which emerged victorious in Monday's poll, announced they would form a coalition government.
They also pledged to reinstate the country's former chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and 60 other judges sacked by Musharraf in November last year.
Geo TV quoted Qureshi as saying that the report had no credibility.
Qureshi said it is up to the political parties to form a government and the president has no role in the matter.
"I think it is now just a matter of days, and not months, because he would like to make a graceful exit on a high," the daily quoted an unidentified friend of Musharraf as saying.
Musharraf had, in fact, said that he was ready to work with any government.
Makhdoom Amin Faheem, leader of the Pakistan People's Party who is likely to be the next prime minister of the country, said there was no immediate plan to impeach Musharraf.
