The Maoists who have launched an agitation for national awakening had planned to launch an indefinite strike across the country to press for their demand to restore ‘civilian supremacy’.

On Friday, the HLPM comprising chiefs of Nepali Congress, Communist Party of Nepal (UML) and Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) had urged the party to call off the strike.

A meeting of the central office-bearers of UCPN (M) agreed to the request and in the evening a release was issued by its chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda that the strike has been called off.
