Australia and New Zealand banking group (ANZ) chief Mike Smith said Australia is overwhelmingly safe and a welcoming country.
"It is completely unacceptable that small pockets of this kind (racial attacks) of attitude appear to remain in any society," he said.
Australia is a leading destination for the education of a new generation of Indian peoeple with around 100,000 Indian students being enrolled here.
"The bottom line in all this is that Australia, because of the good fortune of its geographic position, is part of Asia's growth and it wll be part of India's growth," he said.
