Amidst strains in its ties with India in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks, Pakistan on Sunday called for the defusing of tension and lowering of rhetoric.
In a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Ali Babacan, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi expressed concern at the "increased rhetoric and tension in South Asia".
Qureshi briefed Babacan about the regional situation and said: "it is important that tension is diffused and rhetoric is lowered", a statement from the Foreign Office said.
Babacan telephoned Qureshi to discuss bilateral relations and the regional and global situation.
Qureshi said terrorism is a "common challenge and the international community should strengthen Pakistan's hands to overcome this menace".
Babacan said Turkey will play its "due role in prevention of conflict in South Asia".
Pakistan has stepped up diplomatic contacts with countries round the globe to defuse tensions with India, which has blamed Pakistan-based elements for the Mumbai attacks that killed over 180 people.
