McLintock was arrested in Peshawar a few weeks ago, TV news channels reported. Authorities are also investigating how he returned to Pakistan after being arrested and repatriated to Britain in 2001 on suspicion of involvement in terrorist activities.
The Briton was also arrested in Manchester in November 2003. Official sources were quoted by news channels as saying that they were not aware how McLintock was released in Britain and allowed to travel abroad again.
Pakistan would approach British authorities to seek information about McLintock’s links to militant groups, the sources were quoted as saying.
In 2001, McLintock was arrested after crossing into the North West Frontier Province from Afghanistan.
