Pentagon apologizes for killings in Iraq

The top US military commander expressed his regrets to the families of the 7 women and children shot dead at a US military roadblock in Iraq.

The top US military commander on Tuesday expressed his regrets to the families of the seven women and children shot dead at a US military roadblock in Iraq.

"I extend my regrets to the families of Iraqis killed on Monday," said General Richard Myers, chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff.

"The climate established by the Iraqi regime contributed to this incident," he said at a Pentagon news conference.
