The 'Wizards of Waiverly Place' star joined forces with UNICEF last year, speaking out on issues such as children's rights, and now she has been rewarded for her efforts after being named as the official representative of the charitable cause, Contactmusic reported. A thrilled and honoured Gomez is determined to use her fame to make a difference.

"Every day, 25,000 children die from preventable causes. I stand with UNICEF in the belief that we can change that number from 25,000 to zero," Gomez said. "(She has) now taken on an official role as an ambassador.

She will be involved in educating, advocating, and fund raising," Gomez's representative added. Her first mission as a UNICEF ambassador will see Gomez visit Ghana, where she will learn about the organisation's child survival programmes.
