Sharon opens eyes for first time after stroke

Sharon opened his eyes for first time since January 4 stroke, an Israeli newspaper website reported on Monday.

The website of the Yediot Ahronot newspaper on Monday reported that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon opened his eyes on Monday for the first time since suffering a massive stroke on January 4.

Sharon has been comatose since the stroke, and outside experts have said he is liable to have suffered extensive brain damage.

Hospital officials weren't immediately available for comment.
