The Qantas Boeing 767 travelling from the northern city of Darwin to Brisbane was diverted to Mount Isa in western Queensland state on Sunday, a spokeswoman said.

"It's wasn't a smoke smell. They think it may have come from the lavatory," she told AFP.

Qantas said the flight was diverted as a safety precaution and the plane landed safely without incident.
