India on Tuesday welcomed the need for a UN Security Council resolution on Syria, saying the crisis there needs a political solution which should be “Syrian-led” and “Syria-owned”. “The Syrian people demand and deserve empowerment so that a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political solution can be found in an atmosphere free of violence and bloodshed,” said India’s permanent representative to the US, Hardeep Puri, at the UNSC on Tuesday.

India doesn’t support regime change in Syria. As a non-permanent member, India can vote against a resolution seeking regime change, but that will not determine its fate.
