"Security services arrested rights activist Daniel Saud today (Sunday) at his home in Banias and took him to an undisclosed location," Maatouk said.

The move came after President Bashar al-Assad on Thursday decreed an end to emergency rule, in force in Syria for nearly 50 years.

"This signifies that the security services are continuing to act" as they did before the emergency law was lifted, Maatouk said.
