UN condemns 'ethnic cleansing' in Darfur

The UN's Human Rights Committee, made up of 18 independent experts, condemned on Friday the "militias that engage in ethnic cleansing" in Darfur with impunity from prosecution by Khartoum.

The UN's Human Rights Committee, made up of 18 independent experts, condemned on Friday the "militias that engage in ethnic cleansing" in Darfur with impunity from prosecution by Khartoum.

In a report, it noted with concern that "widespread and systematic serious human rights violations, including murder, rape, forced displacement and attacks against the civil population, have been and continue to be committed with total impunity throughout Sudan and particularly in Darfur".
