The incident took place in North Waziristan tribal region.

The drone (pilotless aircraft) fired two missiles on a house at Garyum area in North Waziristan, killing five people and injuring several others, the report said. It was not immediately known who were the target.

The attack came at a time when the Pakistani forces are engaged in a major offensive against the militants in the adjoining South Waziristan.

The US believes Pakistani militants are planning attacks in Afghanistan.

US drones regularly fire missiles in the Pakistani tribal areas bordering Afghanistan despite Islamabad's opposition to the strikes.

The Pakistani government has said such attacks are "counter-productive" in the war against terror as it kills civilians.
