The VnExpress online newspaper says the 56-year-old woman died Friday, one day after being admitted to a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. She suffered from respiratory failure and a blood infection.

Cao Thi Bao Van, a doctor at the Pasteur Institute, says tests confirmed that the woman was infected with swine flu.

VnExpress says health officials are investigating how she became infected.
