In an interview with NBC's Today show, Plouffe also appeared to clash with House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner. The television network quoted Boehner as saying it would be nearly impossible to raise taxes during a second round of deficit reductions later in 2011.
"That's just not true," he told NBC's Today show. "If we're going to do additional deficit-reduction in the fall, it should be tax reform, closing loopholes for the wealthy and big corporations."
But Plouffe predicted the deal would succeed with lawmakers, "We think, at the end of the day, this is an agreement that will pass the Senate and the House and the president will sign it into law."
