Ever since he walked out a free man from Pune’s Yerawada Central Jail in February, Sanjay Dutt has been busy with his professional commitments. The actor has also been spending a lot of time with his kids. Sanjay says he has now started planning about his kids’ future. “I have started planning, but before me, my wife (Manyata Dutt) started doing that. She is an amazing mother and wife. The way she is bringing up our kids is unbelievable. I’m lucky to have a life partner like her,” says the actor.
There’s still some time for his acting ventures to go on the floors, so Sanjay has been spending his free time with Trishala Dutt, Shahraan Dutt and Iqra Dutt. “I speak to Trishala every day. She is a grown-up lady. She’s doing well for herself and I’m proud of her,” he says.
Sanjay feels his son, Shahraan, looks a lot like him. “I hope he doesn’t behave like me (laughs). He has got a better mother. She is disciplined,” says the actor, adding that when he was in jail, he never met his kids. He didn’t want them to get affected by the environment in the jail or see their father there.
He adds that he and Manyata told the kids that he was away for work. “I told them that I was shooting in the mountains. I had to say that because they are clever. They would say, ‘Call dad on his phone.’ So I used to send them letters. Luckily, we had two phone calls a month. I would call them. They would ask me how big the mountain was, and I’d say, ‘It takes two days to come and go.’ I’m glad that all this [his jail sentence] happened when they were young. They couldn’t understand what was happening,” says Sanjay.
Meanwhile, he is currently working on strengthening his production house. “We will make films. I am already working on one with Sabal Shekhawat (film-maker). I don’t want to star in all my films. I can be creatively involved, but I cannot look after the financial aspects. I have always been bad in mathematics (laughs),” says the actor.
