Seldom do we find a forum that help us discover our true selves, become a friend in distress and a guide in life’s deepest troubles, a platform that reminds us how wonderful and unique we all are. Designed especially for women, the forum, named Women Wonderful would work to remind women how wonderful they are.
Brainchild of Nalini Priyadarshini, a 40-old-year old poetess from Ludhiana and Rank Wilfred, animal activist and an avid biker from Pune, Women Wonderful will provide all women a platform to share their personal and professional lives.
Started as an all-women international Facebook page, Women Wonderful would shortly be opened as an interactive international portal, an open space where women would be free to share their stories.
“As we go through the grind of life, most women tend to forget how wonderful they are and need to be nudged and reminded. We started as an international women-only group on Facebook, but are now growing into much more.
We are in the final stages of putting together an interactive website, womenwonderful.com, to connect women from all over the world for support and encouragement, not only in their personal and professional sphere of lives, but also for the social causes they are working on in their respective areas.
It is a very unique endeavour of its kind that provides women a place where they belong and can be themselves,” Nalini, a former post-graduate from Panjab University, said.
Ask this 40-year-old mother of two — a 12-year-old daughter and a 7-year-old son — what was the idea behind the venture and she said, “Rani Wilfred and I are Facebook friends and we realised that women are either hesitant about voicing their opinions on social sites such as Facebook or get judged and stalked.
We agreed that ladies need a place where they can kick a** and let their hair down.”
An all-women site, the members will be registered after verification and will be given membership cards.
“Members will be able to create their profile, add friends, share pictures, have discussions, support their favourite causes, promote their business etc. We are in talks with various vendors for offering discounts and other benefits to members,” informed Nalini.
"Women are encouraged to voice their concerns and opinions. But generally, it would be a fun place to hang out with friends," she added.
An inspiration herself
Nalini Priyadarshini is herself a living example of inspiration. Having encountered postpartum depression following the birth of her second child, which according to doctors lasted longer than usual, it was writing that gave her a new lease of life.
Since then, there has been no looking back for this poetess, who has much work to her credit in publications, including Mad Swirl, Open Road Review, eFiction India, The Riveter Review, Persona, IIM C Anthology, Up the Staircase Quarterly, Crescent Magazine, Maelstrom Journal, Writers & Lovers Café and The Gambler.
Her three poems — Padma, What You Want and You Are a Woman — were included in the book, The Awakening of ...She Anthology, which was launched in Delhi on International Women’s Day this year.
