Dreamworks has released the first official trailer for their hugely anticipated animated comedy Kung Fu Panda 3.Without delving too deep into the details, the trailer acts as a brief announcement signaling the return of the beloved characters. And as anticipated, the central plot will indeed focus on Po (Jack Black) reuniting with his father and discovering a hidden panda paradise.

The trailer is a glorious reminder of everything that makes this franchise so great: Po’s buffoonish incompetence, The Furious Five led by the curmudgeonly Master Shifu and the stunningly gorgeous action sequences. The main attraction, however, is the tremendously farcical crossing of the paths of Po and his father Li (Bryan Cranston). The short trailer only teases at what appears to be a hilarious scene worthy of this great series. From now on, we will always remember how Po met his father.
So can Kung Fu Panda 3 give us another memorable animated father-son duo like The Lion King and Dreamwork’s own Madagascar franchise? It remains to be seen. But for now, this brief teaser has accomplished what it set out to do: Tease us.
Kung Fu Panda 3 also stars Angelina Jolie, Seth Rogen, David Cross, Jackie Chan and Dustin Hoffman with newcomers Bryan Cranston, Rebel Wilson and in a fit of timely casting brilliance, JK Simmons as the main villain Kai. It is directed by Kung Fu Panda 2 director Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Alessandro Carloni. It will be released, oddly, on 29 January 2016 (the previous films were both summer releases)
