On Tuesday, Affleck, whose career got a boost after starring in films produced by Weinstein, broke his silence in a long Facebook post. “I am saddened and angry that a man who I worked with used his position of power to intimidate, sexually harass and manipulate many women over decades. The additional allegations of assault that I read this morning made me sick. This is completely unacceptable, and I find myself asking what I can do to make sure this doesn’t happen to others. We need to do better at protecting our sisters, friends, co-workers and daughters. We must support those who come forward, condemn this type of behaviour when we see it and help ensure there are more women in positions of power,” he wrote.

McGowan, who has starred with Affleck in two films, responded with a tweet, accusing Affleck of being complicit in the cover up. “@benaffleck “GODDAMNIT! I TOLD HIM TO STOP DOING THAT” you said that to my face. The press conf I was made to go to after assault. You lie,” she wrote on Twitter.

It was reported by the NYT that McGown had accepted a $100,000 settlement in 1997 after an incident with Harvey Weinstein.

Since the news broke, several Hollywood stars have publicly condemned Weinstein’s actions. Jennifer Lawrence, Benedict Cumberbatch, George Clooney, Matt Damon all came out in support of the women who shared their stories. Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie have said that they were harassed by Weinstein too.
