Several security staff members of Ashiana Greens high rise at Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, were allegedly thrashed by a member of a private security staff of union culture minister Mahesh Sharma, on Thursday evening. The minister had gone to meet some relatives at the high rise residential block on Rakshabandhan festival on Thursday.
Sharma’s security staff members were following him in another car.
The incident took place at the main entrance of the housing society when security guards stopped several cars as part of the security drill and inquired about the occupants inside the cars.
“This led to some verbal altercation and one of the persons from the following cars thrashed the guards at the main entrance. Later, the residents felt agitated over the issue and approached the RWA. A complaint was forwarded to police later,” said Pankaj Roy, secretary, Ashiana Greens RWA.
On the other hand, Dr Mahesh Sharma said that he had gone to the house of his sister on Rakshabandhan and his car was stopped.
“The security told the guards about the car and the occupants and my car was allowed to go inside. The altercation took place when I was already inside the flat and came to know only 30 minutes later. Residents approached me over the issue and I personally apologised for the incident. It was some verbal altercation that led to the incident between the high rise staff and one of our private security persons. No government security personnel were involved,” he told HT.
News agency ANI also quoted Sharma as saying, “I have also suspended my security guard and have asked the police to inquire into the incident. I have also apologised to RWA president. If two security guards are fighting what more can a minister do?”
The Ghaziabad police said that they have received a complaint from RWA against one personal security staff and the matter is being investigated.
“We are inquiring into the incident based on the complaint and we will also scan the CCTV footage as to what happened at the society,” said Atul Kumar Yadav, circle officer (Indirapuram).
