Sakshi had secured bronze in the 58 kg category during the 2016 Rio Olympics. After losing in the early round, Sakshi entered the repechage round and she pulled off a come-from-behind victory in the bronze medal play-off to create history.

The wedding ceremony took place in Rohtak and was attended by many, including Sushil Kumar, who had won medals in wrestling during the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics.

Satyawart Kadian is also a wrestler who won the bronze medal in the 2010 Youth Olympics. After having won bronze in the junior world championships, Kadian’s crowning moment was when he clinched silver in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Satyawart Kadian met Sakshi at the event.

Sakshi Malik was resplendent in a red embroidered lehenga. Satyawart complemented his bride in an olive green sherwani.

At the venue, guests were greeted by images and videos of Sakshi’s many triumphs. Footage of her Rio Olympics moment was played on a large LCD screen placed at the entrance.

Satyawart himself has an illustrious wrestling lineage, being the son of Arjuna Awardee wrestler Satyavan Kadian.

On how love blossomed between the couple, the bride’s father Sukhbir Malik said, “They met through various wrestling competitions and are wonderful wrestlers each.

“After Sakshi told us about Satyawart, we found him to be a very nice person and we fixed their marriage. It’s a love-cum-arranged marriage. Hum yehi umeed karte hai ki shaadi hone ke baad mein zydaa mehnat karenge bachhe.”

Celebrities took to Twitter to wish the couple on this occasion. Virender Sehwag, Vijender Singh and Dipa Karmakar all wished the couple.
