Two miscreants snatched the chain of a businessman’s wife at her house in Sector 9, Panchkula, on Tuesday morning, after ‘duly knocking’ at the door.

The miscreants had previously done a recce by knocking at the house and asking the victim Shashi Goel, 61, for an address.

When they found that Shashi and her maid were the only ones at home, they knocked again and carried out the snatching. Of the three chains the victim was wearing, the miscreants — clearly identifiable on CCTV as they were without helmets — managed to get hold of one.

“One chain fell down, while another was snatched. The third chain was not touched. Before the woman could react, the youths had fled,” said Sector-10 police post in-charge, ASI Brij Pal. “The second time, they did not give me any chance to speak. One of them snatched a 20-gm chain. I shouted, but there was no one to catch them,” said Shashi.

“We have registered a case under Section 379 A (snatching) of the IPC. We are investigating the case. We have got the CCTV footage where the faces of accused are visible,” said acting Sector 5 SHO SI Ishwar Singh.
