Constructed at a cost of Rs 1.2 crore, the automated training and driving test centre at the Nabha road was opened for public after its inauguration by cabinet minister Surjit Singh Rakhra.
Mayor Amrinder Singh Bajaj, district transport officer Gurpreet Singh Thind and other senior leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal were present on the occasion.
Addressing the crowd, Rakhra said that the facility would save the unnecessary hassles for the people as they can easily get their driving licences within hours after clearing the driving test both for two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
Another major advantage is that tout culture will be over since the entire process from the processing of documents to the issuing of driver’s licence will be done expediently on the spot at the same venue. He said that the purpose of the facility is to ease public services and produce skilled drivers.
“A leading automobile company will provide training here so that applicants can easily clear the driving test, which is mandatory from now,” he added
DTO Thind said the centre would issue a learner’s licence after a computer test and issue permanent licences within hours after they cleared the test.
He said that such a facility was long required. People would definitely understand the importance of following rules when they will obtain licenses after driving test.
