Visitors at the Railway Station beware! The water you are drinking has been declared unsafe by the health department.

Railway station and the Ferozepur Division laboratory has given ‘unsatisfactory’ status to the samples.

The reports show that in 100ml of sample water has 180+ bacteria.

Health department official said the condition has been the same for the last four months. “We take samples that are not being chlorinated which are not safe for consumption,” he said.

Anirudh Bansal, assistant divisional engineer, said he has not received any complaint yet and will look into the issue. “The water is being chlorinated. Even 15 days ago a new chlorinator was installed at the station,” he said.

Bansal added that while no such complaints have been received, six months ago, it was found that water was contaminated and corrective measures were implemented immediately.”

Varun Gupta (businessman), a passenger said, “I prefer bottle over tap water as it is not safe to drink.”

Another passenger, Sitaram (labour), said that he used to drink water from the taps. “I am not that rich to buy water bottle, I refill the bottle from taps if at all I buy water bottle,” he said.

Dr Gurmeet Singh of civil hospital said it is a serious issue. “There should be zero bacteria in a drinking water. Such contaminated water can cause many water-born diseases like diarrhoea, typhoid, cholera, etc.

People including kids with weak immune system get easily affected from such diseases,” he said.
