Premalatha allegedly made the controversial remark during a public meeting she addressed in Tirunelveli recently, police said.

The case had been registered under the Representation of People Act and IPC on a complaint registered by local AIADMK workers with election officials and on the basis of a report submitted by the officials along with the recordings of her speech at the meeting, they said.

According to the police, Premalatha, in a veiled reference to DMK and AIADMK, allegedly told the gathering “some political parties will offer to give Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 per vote. You ask them Rs 1 lakh per vote”.
