A 35-year-old woman was allegedly gang raped by three men in Bhopal’s Nishatpura locality, police said on Friday.
The men allegedly dragged the mother of five to a secluded area on Wednesday morning, raped her and also threatened to kill her if she reported the matter. Police have lodged a case and are on the lookout for the accused. They suspect the woman could have been raped over a land dispute in Sehore, where the victim belongs.
In her complaint, the woman said around 6 am on Wednesday, she and her mother-in-law had gone out to relieve themselves, when the three men – identified as Kallu, Israel and Afzal – jumped out of the bushes and groped her. They dragged her to a secluded spot and gang raped her. The men threatened to kill her and her mother-in-law before fleeing, she said.
The woman filed a complaint against the three men, who were her neighbours in Sehore, late on Thursday evening.
Superintendent of police (north) Arvind Saxena told reporters the victim’s family was locked in a land dispute with the accused. “In her complaint, the victim has accused the three men were hiding in the bushes with an intention to grope and rape her…We are investigating all the angles,” he said.
The woman and her five children had recently shifted to Bhopal’s Nishatpura area from Sehore after her husband, a labourer, went to Indore for work. She was living with her in-laws.
