Formation of a state Christian board on the lines of the State Waqf Board that looks after the affairs of Muslim waqf properties in MP has gained momentum after the idea got okayed by the State Minority Commission.
In a meeting of the commissionon Friday, all its members unanimously gave nod to the idea. State Minority Commission chairman Anwar Mohammad Khan said the commission would be calling a meeting of the representatives of various sections of Christian community next month, where modalities will be worked out.
A Christian member of the commission, Anand Bernard, said a 10-point agenda has been formed for the meeting.
Minister for backward classes and minority welfare Ajay Vishnoi said let the community decide on the issue. “Let them finalise the draft (proposal) of the Christian board, then only I would bein a position to comment,” he said.
Sections of the Christian community, especially the Catholics, have certain reservations on the proposal. Asked about it, Bernard said Catholics constitute only 15% of the Christian population, still we will try to convince them also as it is for the betterment of the whole community.
Registration and management of Christian waqf properties by existing committees/ trusts or societies. Assistance from the State and Union government would be easier.
Income from the Christian waqf properties would be used for the disadvantaged group of the community.
Board will be constituted with members from the community and a representative from the government. Executive responsibilities like anti-encroachment drive etc would be carried out by a chief executive officer.
A survey of Christian properties would be conducted by the board with a support from the State government, which would be published in the state gazette.
Part of income generatedfrom the waqf property would be given to the board and the rest would be spent on the maintenance and security of the property.
Enquiry would be set up in cases where the properties have been encroached upon or misutilised.
Unutilised land may be used to build commercial complexes, college, hostels etc with assistance from the State or Union government.
Demarcation and building of boundary walls of graveyards and lands reserved for graveyards.
Other decisions taken on the day:
Harmony meets to be organized in Gwalior in October and in Jabalpur in November.
Enquiry into the Gurusingh Sabha Society, Indore (allegations of irregularities) by Indore collector and Registrar (firms and societies).
Recommendation of a disciplinary action against project coordinator KC Goyal of Sheopur, on complaint of the harassment made by one Shabnam Khan.
Instructions to the directorate of backward classes and minority, school education department, higher education department and technical education department to provide scholarshipsf forms and guidance in time to the students belonging to minority community students.
