Sagar: Mining mafia attacked a joint team of forest officials and police on Monday night in Tikamgarh district , 274 kms north-east of Bhopal.
The joint team had gone to take action against the illegal mining of sand and murram (stone) in the Mohangarh area of the district. The accused attacked the team and forcibly took the seized tractor trolley loaded with illegally mined sand and stone. Two forest personnel were injured in the attack.
Tikamgarh forest Range officer Mukesh Ken said along with the flying squad team of forest department , they reached Mohangarh police station to take possession of the tractor trolley loaded with illegally mined sand and murram from the forest area. He said the tractor trolley was caught by Mohangarh police on Sunday night while patrolling.
“The forest team which included around eight person and Police Dial 100 team with around three person left Mohangarh police station for Tikamgarh with the seized tractor trolley .On the way, we were stopped by Mohangarh village Sarpanch husband Daru Khatik along with 35 to 50 people who were armed with wooden batons, sharp edged weapons, katta (country made pistol) and so on. They abused and beat us up and forcibly took away tractor trolley from our possession”, said Mukesh.
Mukesh said after the attack, they reached Mohangarh police station and informed senior officials, following which a report was lodged. “Two forest personnel received internal injuries and they have been admitted at Digora Government Health Centre”, he said.
Mohangarh town inspector Mansaram Baghen said a case was lodged against Daru Khatik and thirteen others under section 353 of IPC (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty,). The accused are absconding and police parties are searching for them.
It is not the first attack by mining mafia in Bundelkhand area. On February 8, mining mafia forcibly took away tractor trolley loaded with illegally mined sand from a home guard constable on gun point in Chhatarpur. Local SDM Sonia Mena had caught the tractor trolley and ordered her security personnel home guard constable to take tractor to Bamitha police station.
