MP woman commits suicide after being allegedly gang raped

The victim’s mother told police that due to the humiliation, her daughter first drank some petrol, but when it did not kill her she consumed celphos tablets.

A tribal woman in her early 20s committed suicide after being allegedly gang raped in a village in Betul district, the victim’s mother has alleged, police said. Betul is situated 180 km south of Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal.

Betul SP DR Teniwar said they have recorded the mother’s statement and are investigating the matter. “The accused are identified and we will arrest them soon,” he said.

According to the police, the alleged incident took place in Bothia village under Jhallar police station.

The girl’s mother told police that her daughter had been kidnapped by one Praveen Rathore and his accomplices from near their house on Tuesday night and they took her to a nearby jungle where she was raped. The miscreants also made a video of the incident.

Family members kept searching for her throughout the night and when she returned home early in the morning she narrated her ordeal to the family.

The mother told police that due to the humiliation, her daughter first drank some petrol, but when it did not kill her she consumed celphos tablets. When her condition deteriorated, they took her to the hospital where she died.

SP Teniwar said according to their investigation so far, the girl had willingly gone with Praveen and another youth, but said that the accused had made her video.

“The girl was engaged to be married, and the accused also informed her would-be husband about the incident, which upset her,” the SP said.
