Sources said 3,800 crates of beer were kept at the warehouse on Mandla road for over six months after which officials found that the bottles had expired dates.
The liquor companies supply the beer to contractors. Before supply, beer crates are kept at warehouses maintained by the excise department. If the crates are lifted by the contractors within six months from the warehouses, the beer is deemed expired.
Reportedly directed by the excise commissioner, officials also destroyed 1,800 crates by running a bulldozer over them.
