Actor Ashmit Patel, after consistently essaying character roles in a slew of forgettable films, has bagged a lead role in a family drama. Haare Ke Sahara will be directed by debutant Vinod Chhabra.

Confirming the news, Ashmit says, “It’s more in the space of Rajshri films’ Hum Aapke Hain Koun…! (1994), that tells the story of these two families and their amicable relationship. It’s a very traditional and clean film,” says Ashmit, adding, “I play the prodigal son, who handles the family business and is trusted more than his elder brother.”

The film also stars Aman Verma, Raghuvir Yadav and Suhasini Mulay as his family members. “A couple of girls have been shortlisted for the female lead, but the makers are yet to decide,” says Ashmit.

Of late, the actor has been in the news most frequently for his alleged relationship with Pakistani model-actor Veena Mallik, but Ashmit rubbishes all speculations.

“That is all part and parcel of the film industry. As actors, you get immune to it after some time. If I was married, it would have been different as it might have affected my family life. But I’m single, so I take it with a pinch of salt,” says Ashmit, who is supposedly doing a film with her.

He feigns ignorance when asked if Veena has been paired with him in one of his forthcoming projects called Supermodel. “The casting for that film is yet to be done. There are five girls in it, so I’m not very sure. But it is scheduled to go on the floors later this month,” he says.
