Average films become hits through good promotions: Nawazuddin

Nawazuddin Siddiqui thinks promotions are more important than any other factor in a film's success. That is why so many average films end up becoming hits. The actor has recently starred in Manjhi: The Mountain Man.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s latest Bollywood outing, a biopic on Dashrath Manjhi, is a hit. While he says that he has given “the best performance” of his life in the film, he thinks it’s unfair to hold an actor solely responsible for a film’s performance.

“Today, a movie’s success majorly depends on the way it is promoted, and on its strategy, etc. The irony is that with such tools, you can turn an average film into a hit,” says Nawazuddin, who is currently on a break in his village, Budhana (Uttar Pradesh), with his wife and kids for a few days, before getting back to work.

The actor, who has worked in back-to-back successful films — Kick (2014), Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Ketan Mehta’s latest venture — says that his struggle has taught him a lot. “It is the biggest learning phase for anyone. It teaches you so many things beforehand.

During the phase, you also see people going up and falling. So, when you reach the same position, you don’t repeat the mistakes committed by others,” says the actor, who will next be seen in director Rahul Dholakia’s Raees, alongside Shah Rukh Khan.

Nawazuddin produced his brother, Shamas Siddiqui’s short film recently. Ask him if he plans to become a full-time feature film producer, and he says, “Right now, there’s no such plan. But yes, if I get a story that I feel like producing, I will definitely do it.”
