The film Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), which completes 9 years of its release on August 15, might not be counted among actor Ranbir Kapoor’s finest films, but it certainly led to establishing his image as the quintessential lover boy. The film saw him as Raj, romancing Minissha Lamba, Bipasha Basu and Deepika Padukone at three different stages of his life. The music still remains a favourite with the listeners, with Khuda Jaane and Bachna Ae Haseeno topping the charts since they were released.

Actor Ranbir Kapoor starred in the 2008 romantic-comedy Bachna Ae Haseeno, along with Deepika Padukone, Bipasha Basu and Minissha Lamba.

Actor Minissha Lamba, who played the role of Mahi in the film, shares her experience of working on the film. “Before Bachna Ae Haseeno, I had never shot a film which was so grand in scale. The makers ensured that the film was so colourful, glamorous and larger-than-life, that it set a benchmark for all subsequent romantic-comedy films.” The biggest challenge for her was to portray a young, vivacious 18-year old. She says, “There is a fine line between playing a role well and overdoing it. My only concern was to not come across as trying too hard to act my age.”

She shares that the film was shot in a very interesting way. “Me, Deepika and Bipasha —all of us were given the scripts for our respective scenes, and not the whole film. Till the film was completed and released, none of us knew how the film will turn out ! Personally, I loved Bipasha’s track the most. Her rise, and the nuances of being a young adult in a relationship were brought out beautifully. Deepika’s character was refreshing, she played an independent girl who drove a taxi to make a living.”

Recalling the most scary part of the shoot, which was filming the song Aahista Aahista, she says, “Me and Ranbir were dropped on top of a snow-clad peak, and we crashed on top of the snow when we jumped from the helicopter! We only had a walkie-talkie with us through which we were given instructions and had to pretend that the song was playing...flailing our arms and all of that. But suddenly the weather took a turn for the worse, and the helicopter rushed to our safety. Even a 5-7 minute delay would have meant that a few hours later, all people could find of us would be little popsicles!”
